Gather few mobile freaks and supply them with a hotspot, it will not be long and they will interact with one another.
Now think about that, you have no need to gather them together, “Automatic – WeFi” Will do it for you.
Mobile social network is another mobile phone “Hotspot” therefore the future of it is currently unclear.
WeFi is a new (mobile) player that use Wi-Fi to connect people together.
WeFi, launched back in 2007, helps people find hotspots using their laptop. The software has about 4 million users, helping each other to find hotspots.
The new version for Windows mobile and Nokia S60 phones is more “WE” than “FI”.
Connecting my Nokia E61 on a regular basis to a Wi-Fi connection is a simple task.
The E61 connects automatically to known access points and searching for new ones is also not too complicated.
The new Automatic – WeFi will improve a bit your Wi-fing skill, just a bit.
I have to say that the S60 connection manager is fairly nice and it achieved some degree of improvement to the simplicity of the interface. There is always a place for improvement, but I do not think that “Automatic – WeFi” is the answer because the interface is already trivial enough to enable users to connect.
The important factor is the content or the application that run over the network and in this case a social network / proximity based service are the services that will do the impact using the technology.
I think that most mobile Wi-Fi users are tech-savvy or just using iPhone-E&N Nokia series and windows mobile devices.
Building a mobile social network using Wi-Fi will certainly bring people together.

Just something to note: The purpose of this application is to help you connect to the best WiFi network around and to spare you the need of manually choosing one, failing, choosing another, etc.
According the screenshots supplied, it seems as if the author of this article has tried to use it in an environment where only one WiFi network exists. Indeed, in such an environment the added value of the application is not so great. The real value of the application becomes clearer when you use it as you walk around outside, in coffee shops, in the street, etc.
Proper disclosure: I’m a WeFi employee.
Thanks Nadav,
I agree that “Automatic – WeFi” best environment is at “multiple hotspot”.
I said that from my point of view the S60 OS provides you an easy way to connect hotspots.
What I say is that I would use “Automatic – WeFi” more for its “Social” and less for finding hotspots.
anyway “Automatic – WeFi” is a great application although not a “must have” one if you already got used to the native tools integrated in the S60.

Your observation that the social aspect of Wi-Fi is a new and interesting trend is quite correct. In fact, the quality and value of “Automatic – WeFi” increases as more people use WeFi in a given area. This is because the WeFi network servers cache the results of the scanning and Internet-probing of all the devices which run WeFi, and share this information with all the other devices in the area. I am a WeFi employee too, by the way…
It will be very interesing what you think can be a good way to expose this social value of WeFi and make people feel the influence of the community.
